چکیده
Drilling/coring activities during NGHP-Expeditions 01 and 02 discovered significant gas hydrate deposits in the Krishna-Godavari (KG) basin, a proven petroliferous basin located along eastern continental margin of India. Active paleo-cold seeps are also reported from deep waters (>1000 m), indicating methane venting episodes KG basin. In present study, we analyzed geophysical data acquired onboard RV Sindhu Sadhana to study spatial distribution flares offshore Twenty-two were observed water-column images at seafloor depths ranging 638 m 1960 m. All except one detected within stability zone (GHSZ), which occurs beyond 700–720 water depths. Most seem terminate these depths, that bubbles might be coated with thin skin. Seabed sampling flare regions shows presence chemosynthetic communities shallow hydrates 2–4 mbsf. The is not random tends align toe-thrust zones shale diapiric mounds. These compressive structures formed due tectonism have provided an environment conducive for formation flares/cold seeps. analysis high-resolution seismic across chimneys faults, facilitated migration deep-seated fluid/gas through GHSZ. Focused fluid flow fault perturbation + seawater phase curve salinity increase owing continuous most likely mechanisms explain migration.

Acoustic reflections in the water column of Krishna-Godavari offshore basin, Bay of Bengal.
Seismic oceanographic studies from various oceans worldwide have indicated that the acoustic reflections are mostly observed along thermal boundaries within the water column. However, the authors present a case study of seismic data from Krishna-Godavari Basin which shows that salinity variations also play an important role in the occurrence of water column reflections. The observed reflection ...

Mineralogy and Petrology of the Krishna Godavari Basin on Shore Area, East Coast of India
Shales are defined as fine-grained terrigenous sediments and rocks that contain 50% or more of terrigenous, and generally argillaceous, clastic components less than 0.062 mm in size. In the shales, clay-size components often dominate their rock properties, such as density, plasticity, parting, compatibility and swelling. Generally the size boundary between clay and silt is 4μm, but most clay mi...
متن کاملGas hydrate stability zone modeling in the Krishna Godavari Basin, Eastern margin of India
The Krishna Godavari (KG) basin is rich in gas hydrate and exhibits an area of wide range of gas hydrate stability zone (GHSZ). In this region, we modeled the base of the gas hydrate stability zone (BGHSZ) utilizing in situ temperature measurements acquired during national gas hydrate program (NGHP) Expedition-01. The bottom simulation reflector (BSR) closely approximates the BGHSZ, and due to ...
